Activision Publishing today unveiled the name and release date for the next iteration of Call of Duty. The Treyarch developed Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled to ship on November 9, 2010.
"We can't wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. "We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts."
Treyarch has a huge challenge on its hands, trying to one-up the mega blockbuster Modern Warfare 2. Activision COO Thomas Tippl promised that Treyarch will take Call of Duty to the next level. With Infinity Ward practically on life support, Treyarch now becomes the de facto Call of Duty team, so the pressure is on.
Very little is known about Black Ops, but it's been widely reported to feature a Vietnam setting and possibly other Cold War settings. More will be revealed when the game appears tonight on GameTrailers TV on Spike. Activision said that following the show, gamers should check out www.callofduty.com/blackops and Twitter at JD_2020.

Trailer is awesome, but Treyarch doesn't have a very strong track record. WaW was barely ok, since it used the IW engine, but maybe they learned a lesson with MW2, who knows.
