Call of Duty 'Action-Adventure' Title Will Still Be an FPS

Posted May 27, 2010 by M.H. Williams

When Activision hinted at plans to expand the Call of Duty franchise with an “action-adventure” spinoff, most assumed this meant the title would be played from the third-person perspective. The title, being developed by internal studio Sledgehammer Games, will in fact remain a first-person affair if job postings are anything to go by.

A number of job listings appearing on Gamasutra show that Sledgehammer is hiring for their “Call of Duty FPS development team.” This yet-unnamed spin-off would not be the first first-person action-adventure title, with previous shots at the crown including Bethesda’s Oblivion and Nintendo’s Metroid Prime series. It will be interesting to see how this new game will innovate and reinvigorate the franchise that Infinity Ward built.

Sledgehammer Games was created by former Dead Space creators at EA's Visceral Games studio, Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.
