Call of Duty 8 Revealed By Sledgehammer

Posted August 10, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Sledgehammer has revealed that they are indeed working on Call of Duty 8, a game that will take the stories of actual servicemen and turn them into playable situations.

A recent Twitter post from a studio exec has teased the very first details of what is to be expected. Studio co-founder Glen Schofield tweeted the following: “Working w/ military guys- their stories will blow you away. Names/locations will change but some situations going in the game- real stuff!”

Sledgehammer games recently joined the Call of Duty franchise under Activision; some of the studio's founders are well known for the work they did on EA's popular Dead Space sci-fi horror franchise.

Schofield also added on Twitter that music composition for the game would start soon as they are “Picking composers 4 the game. Fun stuff, think we found a great fit. Audio will b better than what we did on Dead Space.”

Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty will be an “adventure FPS,” a spin-off from the traditional Call of Duty series. The game’s release shouldn’t affect the arrival of the next Infinity Ward title, expected in 2011.

Speculation has it that Sledgehammer is producing a “Space Warfare” title, but no statements have been made on the subject by anyone at Activision or Sledgehammer.

Sledgehammer is one of three studios currently working on the Call of Duty franchise, Treyarch is set to release Call of Duty: Black Ops in November and Infinity Ward is working on Modern Warfare 3, set for release in 2011.
