The big news has yet to drop, and Bungie is certainly not cooling fans’ jets by not making an appearance at E3 this year, but new trademark filings might offer some clues as to what is to be expected in the coming months. It seems that the rumored MMO shooter title, ‘Destiny,’ could be a reality after all.
The fans at Halo.bungie.org have apparently uncovered a new trademark filing from Bungie under what is essentially a shell company for the developer. Podophobia Entertainment, started by Bungie founder Harold Ryan and composer Martin O’Donnell, filed for the trademark of a game called Destiny. While this certainly is not Bungie making any moves, Podophobia is located at Bungie’s former headquarters.
The trademark says that Destiny is a “computer game software downloadable from a global computer network.” A phrase has been trademarked as well for the title, “Be Brave.”
Even more interesting is the accompanying logo for the tile. Astute members at NeoGAF have linked the Destiny logo to a logo seen on the shirt of a Bungie employee who recently attended the Penny Arcade Expo.
Of course, all of this remains speculation, but the coincidences almost certainly account for the earlier discussion of an ex-Bungie employee who essentially outed the game back in February.
Bungie has yet to comment on the trademark filing. Unfortunately, any official news seems out of the question at this point with Bungie stepping out of the spotlight of E3 2011.
