Games are becoming the new vogue thing for studios to try and option, even if the game in question hasn’t released yet; case in point, Plan B Entertainment (Brad Pitt’s production company) and partner Reliance Big Entertainment have teamed up with Capcom for the film rights to Dark Void. The movie version of Dark Void is being set up as a sci-fi action flick with Pitt potentially in the lead role.
”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them,” commented Reliance Big Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna.
“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”
Dark Void centers around a mysterious region of the Bermuda Triangle where aliens are seeking to take over the world, and it’s up to the player to help defeat them with his advanced jet pack. Dark Void will release in late January 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360.
