The Commander Shepard trilogy for Mass Effect is drawing to a close, ending a rather epic saga for BioWare and EA. The last installment for the game is due out March 6, bringing together a story that has greatly expanded the possibilities for storytelling and universe creation in gaming. While it might be the end of the trilogy, the franchise has “so much to draw from,” says the developer.
"Without going down any specific path, you can think of many, many different areas throughout the [intellectual property], throughout the history, where there are large wars to be won, large battles to be had, and a lot of development to be done around where these races came from, how they came about," said Mass Effect 3 producer Michael Gamble.
The franchise took an interesting step for the second game, telling gamers to keep their first game saves for use with the sequel. The third game will be bringing a conclusion to those saves, but it could very well lead to an even bigger opportunity, should some rather cryptic words hold any weight.
“It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep your ME3 saves,” hinted Gamble. “The future is wide open.”
