Two BioWare founders remember the days that were filled with only a few games and only when the industry was focused on a small, niche group of consumers. Unfortunately today though, there is simply too much out there to play.
“There’s too many games released today,” says BioWare co-founder and current general manager at BioWare Ray Muzyka to Develop. “It interesting, because it’s very, very busy, it makes it very hard as a player to keep up. The releases clump up – even though that is changing a little bit.”
“For us, we have to play our games, play competitor’s games, play other relevant games, and play the handful of games we just really want to play more of and finish. I try and play two-or three hours a night, but that’s hard and it’s not enough.”
At least they take solace in the fact that games on the whole are improving as time goes on. When asked about the highlights of the industry, Muzyka simply replied, “All the great games."
For Greg Zeschuk, it’s the people that make the industry great. “There’s all the great teams, and the quality across the board. There are so many good games to play, and so many people doing so many different things. There’s not really too much repetition; there’s just a lot of really good experiences.”
“It’s amazing.”
