BioWare and Mythic Combining Together

Posted June 24, 2009 by David Radd

Big news was officially announced on the official Warhammer website. Today apparently being the day for restructuring announcements, EA will be merging Mythic and BioWare into a combined unit that deals with both RPGs and MMOs.

Ray Muzyka, co-founder and General Manager of BioWare, will head up the group as Group General Manager, while fellow BioWare founder Greg Zeschuk will be Group Creative Officer for the new RPG/MMO studio group. The rest of BioWare's studios will remain unchanged.

Mark Jacobs, General Manager of Mythic, has left the company. Rob Denton has been promoted to fill Jacobs' role and will report directly to Muzyka.

"Mythic retains a strong team led by Rob who co-founded Mythic in 1995. Rob played a critical role in the development of Dark Age of Camelot. In his previous role as COO, he was responsible for all day-to-day management of the studio including all development, operations and support," reads the release by EA. "Please join us in celebrating the union of these two award-winning studios."

We have to wonder if this is just a business reorganization in a simple attempt by parent company EA to save some money or whether they hope that some of BioWare's magic will rub off on Mythic.

Nothing against Mythic, but I hope they don't water down Bioware. Bioware is just awesome, and their internal culture seems to be a big part of that.
