BioShock Infinite Helped Along By 2K Australia

Posted November 28, 2011 by M.H. Williams

2K Games’ Australian studio has been renamed 2K Australia again, as the studio pitches in on Irrational Games’ BioShock Infinite.  An employee at the Canberra-based studio told MCV about the name change, which is not the first in the company’s history.

During the development of BioShock, the studio was known as 2K Australia and it worked hand-in-hand with Irrational Games, who was known as 2K Boston at the time.  It retained the 2K Australia named during the development of BioShock 2, where it worked with 2K Marin.  When 2K Marin announced it was working on the new XCOM game, 2K Australia became… 2K Marin.  And now with the ongoing development of BioShock Infinite, the studio has regained the 2K Australian moniker.

Why the name changes?  Only 2K Games knows.  This also makes 2K Australia the true workhorses of the BioShock franchise, having worked on all three games at this point.  BioShock Infinite is expected to be release sometime in 2012.
