BioShock 2 Drills its Way to the Top in U.K.

Posted February 16, 2010 by James Brightman

2K Games shipped BioShock 2 last week, and the game has been very well received, although not quite as well as the original. Still, as one of the more anticipated titles of this busy Q1 period, it's likely that sales are brisk. U.S. totals are not yet available, but across the pond, the data trackers at Chart-Track have announced that BioShock 2 was the top-selling game for the week ended February 13. [Check out our full interview with BioShock 2 creative director Jordan Thomas.]

"It’s no shock which title is at No1 this week as Take 2’s sequel Bioshock 2 gets off to a rapturous start," said Chart-Track with a not-so-funny pun. "Just like Take 2’s Grand Theft Auto IV (which was their last No1 back in 2008), Bioshock 2 saw a Tuesday release and overtakes Mass Effect 2 as the biggest release this year so far."

Interestingly, Mass Effect 2, which was on top last week, has now fallen down to the eighth spot, as sales declined 58%. EA’s Dante’s Inferno dropped down from fourth to ninth as well. Sega's Bayonetta, however, seems to be gaining some interest, as it finally entered the top 10 after finding itself at No38. And to the dismay of hardcore gamers we're sure, Ubisoft's Just Dance has maintained its number two position again.  EA’s FIFA 10 also saw its sales boosted by 53%, allowing it to move up to the third spot. Chart-Track said price promotions for the soccer game factored in.

Here's Chart-Track's top 20 for the week (the number on the right is last week's position):
