Bethesda's Next Title 'Pretty Far Along,' 2nd New Game Also in Development

Posted August 16, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Bethesda has dodged consumer questioning over the next title from the company for almost two years now, but executive producer Todd Howard shed some light on the studio’s activities at QuakeCon 2010. The next project from the studio is not only “pretty far along,” but it has been revealed that the title will be released for the current generation. Howard also said that the development process for the game after the current project has already been started.

Howard stated to Eurogamer that around 90 people are working on the next title, and that the stretch of time between the announcement and the launch will be “the shortest it’s been for us.”

It was also pointed out that the upcoming game has been built on the same engine that powered Fallout 3. “That’s our starting point – the Fallout 3 tech. It started with Morrowind, we went to Oblivion, we did a lot between Oblivion and Fallout 3 because we had our final hardware – with Oblivion we had six months on final hardware, so Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump than that,” he said.

Howard would not go into detail concerning the upcoming title or when an announcement would be made, citing that he did not want to create hype or disappoint people improperly, as times and announcement dates could shift later on.

It's been over four and a half years since they released Oblivion - I sure hope Elder Scrolls V is the game "pretty far along." Also, given the fact that the next console hardware generation may be as much as four years away, I don't think many developers now are preparing right now for that shift.

2014 is hopefully when new consoles will be released. I wish it would be sooner tho. Releasing a few screens really isn't hype but informing players.

"and that the stretch of time between the announcement and the launch"
Couldn't that backfire? You need hype but just don't announce anything you can't promise like a release date.
