Bethesda Softworks Confirms id Layoffs

Posted January 10, 2012 by Ben Strauss

Bethesda Softworks has confirmed today that an unspecified number of layoffs have occurred within id Software, developer behind the commercially unsuccessful Rage.  The layoffs were part of a “standard business practice,” says Bethesda.

"As part of its standard business practice, id regularly evaluates staffing to ensure it has a workforce that meets the needs of the studio. As part of that process, some id employees were recently let go," said the publisher in a statement.

This does not, however, mean that id is going away as Bethesda ensured that they are "still recruiting and hiring qualified developers,” and that "development work on future id titles continues unabated."

id Software is reportedly continuing their work on Doom 4, which has been in development for just over four years now.
