The long-running legal battle between Bethesda and Interplay has finally come to an end, it has been revealed. The two firms have been locked in a dispute over multiple issues regarding the Fallout franchise, notably a possible breach in contract by Interplay over the development of Fallout: Online.
As noted by fansite Duck & Cover, the settlement has been reached but has not been detailed as of yet. Details about the exact settlement will not be released until late this month.
The ongoing battle between the two companies originated with Bethesda suing Interplay for trademark infringement and breach of contract back in 2009. Interplay was unable to secure an injunction on two occasions, forcing the lawsuit onwards.
This put Interplay in a perilous position, as the company has been doing rather poorly for some time now. The company believes that the larger and more successful Bethesda was intentionally dragging the lawsuit on to force Interplay to play ball.
Regardless of those sentiments, a deal has finally been struck, one that has the future of Fallout: Online in the balance.
