Be The Piano Man in Rock Band 3

Posted May 25, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Gamers vying to check out the demo for Green Day: Rock Band were greeted with a nice surprise today; Rock Band 3 icons representing the various playing instruments were displayed. And two of these icons show off something new and whimsical for the genre, as gamers will apparently have the chance to play the keyboard and even vocally harmonize (vocal harmonization was introduced in The Beatles: Rock Band and confirmed for Rock Band 3 earlier).

What this means is that Rock Band 3 should allow for guitar, bass, drums, lead vocals, two back up vocals and a keyboard. That would bring the total number of gamers up to seven players in one song. Harmonix recently teased that "you'll be surprised at just how big [Rock Band 3] really is," and it would appear that they literally meant it.

Viacom recently blamed Rock Band for lower sales but perhaps adding a keyboard to the mix will reinvigorate Rock Band for the company and draw in a larger audience. With both Rock Band 3 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock in the pipeline, the music genre will perhaps get a much needed shot in the arm

Gamers have until this holiday season to secure a bigger TV for Rock Band 3's launch.
