Bayonetta Director: 'I'd like to Finish Viewtiful Joe's Story Someday'

Posted December 8, 2009 by David Radd

Platinum Games founder Hideki Kamiya's most recent masterpiece is the stylish action game Bayonetta, though the acclaimed director is known for his work on Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Okami. When asked by Game Informer about which of his properties that he made during his time at Capcom that he’d like to revisit, Kamiya had a thoughtful answer.

"Up until very recently I really felt someday I wanted to make a sequel to Okami, and there were others who wanted me to as well,” said Kamiya. “But then the other day I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel and now I'm just not interested in it anymore. Once someone else touches a world that you yourself created it stops being yours. There is no point in making a sequel when the world doesn't belong to you. Viewtiful Joe is probably all I've got left. That story is incomplete so I'd like to finish it someday. But that would probably be the most difficult one to do [laughs]."

Bayonetta picture included just because.

It is technically possible that Capcom could tap Platinum Games to create a Viewtiful Joe sequel somewhere down the line, but it's very unlikely. Until then, we’ll just enjoy all the other new IP that Kamiya will create while working at Platinum.
