Battlefield Heroes Sees Pricing Restructure

When Battlefield Heroes was first announced, the game was an ambitious move by EA to enter the free-to-play online gaming sphere, allowing players to make micro-transactions in order to customize and upgrade their avatars. While players were able to make do with what they acquired through regular gameplay, Ars Technica is reporting that the game’s pricing structure was radically changed recently.

In-game currency, called Valor Points, has been made less effective for purchasing in-game items, while the cost in BattleFunds (purchased with real money) has been decreased. This change gives a much larger advantage to players willing to shell out money in the game and has made the game’s community very upset, with many claiming this will drive them from Battlefield Heroes completely.

A common signature in the Battlefield Hero forums for users protesting the price change.

In a forum post, Battlefield Heroes studio manager Ben Cousins put things in stark terms: “We have wages to pay here in the Heroes team and in order to keep a team large enough to make new free content like maps and other game features we need to increase the amount of BF that people buy. Battlefield Heroes is a business at the end of the day and for a company like EA who recently laid off 16% of their workforce, we need to keep an eye on the accounts and make sure we are doing our bit for the company.”
