Autodesk Acquires Scaleform for $36 Million

Posted March 1, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Autodesk has followed through with their claim to acquire Scaleform, a leading UI middleware developer. The deal was closed for a total of $36 million. Autodesk hopes to expand their operations with the purchase of Scaleform, who will retain the majority of the 30 or so employees already on staff.

Scaleform GFx, a development tool used in 3D hardware used to create HUD systems, animated textures and a variety of other interface programs, claims over 800 titles across every major platform. The technology will supplement Autodesk’s 9 million users who already use AutoCAD, Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya.

Scaleform CEO Brendan Iribe, CTO Michael Antonov and COO Marc Bennett will join Autodesk’s executive team. There are no plans to merge physical space, as Scaleform will remain at their present site in Greenbelt Maryland.
