Atari has officially closed the sale of Cryptic Studios, after announcing the intention back in May. Chinese MMO developer Perfect World has picked up the studio to the tune of $49.8 million, to which Atari has completely sold off its interest in the firm.
Perfect World has been on an acquisition spree as of late with their majority stake purchase in Runic Games earlier this year. Cryptic is yet another MMO developer that will help supplement Perfect World’s development capabilities.
As for Atari, the company plans on using the money from the sale to pay down debts owed to BlueBay Credit. The rest of the payment will be used towards Atari’s latest initiatives in the social and mobile markets, where it plans on maintaining a focus.
