Earlier we reported on Time Magazine picking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as its Game of the Year. Now the Associated Press has announced its own top 10 list for 2009, and not only is Modern Warfare 2 not #1, but the game didn't even make the list. It didn't make the AP's "honorable mentions" either. Of course, these lists are very subjective, but we do find it hard to believe that a game as highly polished and successful as Modern Warfare 2 would be completely ignored.
Here's the AP's top 10 list:
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- Assassin's Creed 2
- Dragon Age: Origins
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- inFamous
- Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
- Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
- Borderlands
- Forza Motorsport 3
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Regarding its Game of the Year, Uncharted 2, AP commented, "Like an interactive version of a classic Hollywood action movie, this globe-trotting treasure hunt delivers thrills, romance and more hairbreadth escapes than the entire Indiana Jones series."
The AP also selected Rock Band 2 as its "Game of the Decade." The news organization said, "Harmonix Music Systems provided an entirely new type of video-game experience with Guitar Hero, giving all of us the chance to live out our rock-star dreams. Rock Band 2 is Harmonix's fullest realization yet of that ideal — and the one game I keep coming back to whenever I just want to have fun." That's a sentiment we can certainly agree with, as we probably pick up and play Rock Band more than any other game in our free time.
The AP's honorable mentions included: Shadow Complex, Scribblenauts, Professor Layton & the Diabolical Box, Demon's Souls, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, DJ Hero, The Beatles: Rock Band, Rock Band Unplugged, and 1 vs. 100.

That is a bit PS3 heavy of a list. Uncharted 2 definitely deserved #1. But the Ratchet sequel? Really?
And yeah, that was a big swipe at Modern Warfare 2. But then again, it is not like they need any acclaim . . . they are already dominating news stories and sales.
And where is Left 4 Dead 2 and Gay Tony?

Although Modern Warfare 2 should have been somewhere on that list, I will agree that the top 4 games definitely deserved recognition.
