Assassin's Creed Confirmed for 2012

Posted November 8, 2011 by David Radd

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that another entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise is coming next year, marking the fourth straight year with a release in the series. The announcement was made during a conference call and offered no other details about the game.

As for this year's product, it was noted that pre-orders for Assassin's Creed: Revelations are better than they were for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Still, it is expected that overall sales will be lower than Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which is in-line to match the nearly 9 million in sales for Assassin's Creed II.

"We want to be careful and prudent, but we have high expectations for the product," said Guillemot [thanks Gamasutra], noting that early impressions have been favorable from media and consumers.

While Assassin's Creed creative director Alexandre Amacio did recently mention that Ubisoft was looking to restructure the development cycle away from annual releases, he did also note that the end of the world plot centering on December 2012 is “fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point."
