Apple Tablet Gains EA's Support - WSJ

Posted January 21, 2010 by James Brightman

With the incredible success of the App Store on the iPhone and iPod Touch, some would argue that Apple has already revolutionized the games industry. At the very least, the company has shown how effective digital distribution can be and has forever altered the mobile gaming landscape. Next week, on January 27, Apple is expected to unveil its new tablet device, which could represent the company's next big step in gaming.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is working with Electronic Arts to "show of the tablet's game capabilities." EA has been very supportive of the App Store with games like The Sims 3, Madden NFL 10, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, among others, and considering the publisher's focus on transitioning more and more into digital, the new tablet could be a perfect fit.

Apple's tablet device doesn't look to be a gaming platform first and foremost, but then again, neither did the iPhone right away. The tablet will display reading material like textbooks, newspapers and magazines in a Kindle-like fashion, but Apple is also reportedly "negotiating with television networks such as CBS Corp. and Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC, for a monthly TV subscription service," the WSJ said.

Apple's plan to control our lives both on the go and at home may almost be complete.
