App Store Game Subscriptions Go Away

Posted November 23, 2011 by Steve Peterson

If it sounds to good to be true, maybe it is. We ran a story earlier today about Big Fish Games being allowed to put an app in Apple's App Store that allowed a game subscription; you'd pay $6.99 a month to access their titles. Now there's word that Apple has yanked the app from the App Store. Apple declined to give a reason, but it may be that one of Apple's reviewers approved the app without realizing the sort of precedent that was being set. Once Apple figured out what this app really meant, out it came.

It's not clear that consumers are eager for a subscription model for games, but it looks like we'll have to wait longer to find out.
