Anonymous 'Not Planning' to Attack PlayStation Network

Posted January 3, 2012 by Ben Strauss

The ‘hacking collective’ in Anonymous has announced their intentions to strike back at those companies that have officially backed SOPA.  A new video on YouTube has made it a point to inform Sony that they will be targeted, but made note that PSN will remain unharmed.

SOPA, a bill that has been furiously attacked by free-speech and internet groups around the world, would potentially give the Federal Government the power to shut down access to websites, akin to methods used by such countries as China, Iran and several Middle Eastern nations.  The thrust of the bill was to stop piracy, but such verbose writing made it clear that the bill could be used to circumvent judicial oversight, causing a massive uproar.

Sony had initially offered full support to the bill, but has since backed down on their vocal support of the bill.  Anonymous has made it clear that they will attack individual Sony executives while working to obstruct Sony owned websites.  The group also promised to distribute, for free, as much Sony content as possible until the company backed down.
