Angry Birds Catapult onto Facebook

Posted February 14, 2012 by James Brightman

Angry Birds hit a half billion downloads last November, but Rovio's mobile blockbuster is just getting warmed up. Now the game is launching a free version on Facebook, which will entice users with virtual power-ups for purchase and social elements like a leaderboard.

Interestingly, Rovio decided to launch the game in Jakarta; Rovio Asia senior vice president Henri Holm said the company chose the location because Jakarta is the "world's most Facebook-connected city." The goal is to reach more than 800 million users worldwide.

Social and mobile game offerings do appear to be converging, so we're not surprised to see the top mobile game tackling Facebook.
