Reports from Strategy Analytics say that Amazon has a winner on their hands with the new Kindle Fire. After an impressive showing and debut at Amazon’s press event, the Kindle Fire is the first real push by the retailer giant to get into the tablet market. That push will reportedly result in over 15 million units sold by the end of 2013.
"Our first impression of the Amazon Kindle Fire is very positive,” said Peter King, director of touchscreen strategies for Strategy Analytics. “Amazon has avoided what most of the earlier iPad competitors failed to avoid; a direct comparison on size, features, price and user experience."
The tablet, a color touchscreen, is a major departure from the previous Kindle offerings. With free 3G and a very reasonable price, there could very well be a new entry into the tablet market that pushes against the market standing of the iPad 2. Even more interesting is that this could very well be another platform that appeals to the game development industry.
The report specifically mentions the added benefit to the Android market. "Amazon will likely sell such high volumes of the Fire that Google's Android OS will benefit from the increased scale of Apps developed with Android in mind in general, and Amazon specifically,” noted King.
The Kindle Fire is launching in the U.S., with expectations for release in the EU and Japan. Strategy Analytics also believes that the tablet will see two more models released within 2013.
