Aliens vs. Predator Developer Accused of Withholding Wages

Posted May 10, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Sources tell Develop that several employees of the studio were told to clear their desks and head home. Even more worrisome, there is concern that those employees based out of Derby have not been paid for April, and that redundancy compensation packages could be withheld as well.

Times have been tough for Rebellion. After the announcement of the closure of the Oxford studio earlier this year, many employees are worried that Rebellion is going under and its assets will be liquidated as part of a possible bankruptcy claim that will allow Rebellion to forego paying severance packages to the remaining employees.

"They seem to be claiming that as Rebellion Derby is registered as a separate legal entity, and it's not currently making money, that [there is] no money to pay their remaining [staff]," explained the wife of one of the affected employees. "The feeling amongst those who have been left is that it looks like they will be putting the studio into liquidation in order to get out of paying the packages that they have agreed."

Rebellion’s executive staff has refused to comment and Jason and Chris Kingsley, founders of Rebellion, have not been reached for comment due to travel affairs.

Rebellion announced it would be closing Rebellion Derby earlier this year not Oxford, a separate entity to Rebellion. Derby was the studio responsible for Rogue Warrior.

Jason and Chris Kingsley are the MD's of Rebellion as well as the founders.
