Gaming industry and actor labor organizations had their disagreements over the last major set of negotiations in 2005, but this time around an agreement appears to be in place before the old one expires. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the national board of directors for American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) has approved the previously announced gaming contract, asking its members to do the same and bring it one step closer to ratification.
The proposal is set to take effect on January 1, 2010 and run until March 31, 2011. Members would see a 2.5 percent pay increase and a 0.2 percent hike in employer pension contributions. The agreement also creates a new performance category, the "atmospheric performer." AFTRA and SAG have worked together to form this deal.
"AFTRA members pioneered union work under the Interactive Media Agreement in the early 1990s, and today this contract generates millions of dollars in earnings and benefits for thousands of AFTRA members in both large and small markets around the nation," said AFTRA president Roberta Reardon.
