Activision Opens Independent Games Competition

Posted October 3, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Activision has once again announced their move to work with independent game developers in the form of a competition.  Gamers may remember last year, in which Activision offered a cash prize to the best indie game pitch.  The publisher has announced a second round, with the winning submission earning $175,000 for development.

"This competition underscores Activision's commitment to fostering creativity in the independent development community," Dave Stohl EVP of Studios, Activision, said. "Many of us began our careers as indies, so we are very proud to offer this kind of support and encouragement to a couple of the industry's young visionaries."

Activision will be working with IndieCade on administering the contest.  Those wishing to compete simply need to send in their game concept for a shot at either $175,000 for the winner or $75,000 for the runner up.

"Working with IndieCade is allowing Activision to bring our message of support directly to the community," explained Stohl. "The programs IndieCade offers - conferences, awards and the annual IndieCade Festival, a celebration of independent studio success - touch the community core."

The contest runs from October 3 to December 31.
