Activision Confirms 7 Studios Layoffs

Posted October 7, 2009 by David Radd

Cutbacks fell hard on the necks of 7 Studios members today, as Kotaku is reporting that 30 members of the development team were let go. According to a source, this represents roughly half of the developer's staff.

"Since the completion of its acquisition by Activision, 7 Studios has realigned its business to focus its development resources on the music genre," read a statement issued by Activision. "As a part of this realignment, the studio is reducing its workforce to better reflect Activision's upcoming slate of music-based games."

7 Studios was purchased by Activision in April while the developer was working on Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, leading to a lawsuit from the game's publisher claiming that Activision was seeking to gain unfair advantage for their product DJ Hero. Eventually, development for Scratch was shifted over to Commotion Interactive.
