In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick was asked, “If you could snap your fingers, and instantly make one change in your company what would it be?” His reply?
"I would have Call Of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow,” he said. “When you think about what the audience's interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call Of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience.”
Kotick believes that gamers are chomping at the bit for online, paid Call Of Duty.
"I think our audiences are clamouring for it. If you look at what they're playing on Xbox Live today, we've had 1.7 billion hours of multiplayer play on Live,” he added. “I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers. I think we could create so many things, and make the game even more fun to play. We haven't really had a chance to do that yet."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been a blockbuster title for Activision, having crossed 55 million units sold in November of 2009. The next title in the franchise, the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty: Black Ops, is due out in November 9.

Why doesn't he just say it "I want a gazillion dollars! Wheeee!"

Because that would mean he would have to be honest and when's the last time you saw an honest game executive?
As one of the many millions of people who play COD: MW2 over Xbox live I will be the first(of many I'm sure) to say that I would NEVER pay a monthly subscription fee for any console game(except for maybe an MMO). And that even includes....wait for it.....Halo. I paid for my console, pay for my games and pay for Xbox live. Thats more than enough currency to be able to play my games.
