Gamesauce magazine recently spoke with John Romero, venerated developer of the original Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein franchises. As part of a lengthy and detailed interview, which also covered the infamous "Suck it Down" ad, Romero hinted at the fact that he would be open to working with John Carmack, the other co-founder of id Software.
“I have no doubt that if John and I decided to make another game it would be fresh and new and awesome. We’ve both grown a lot in the past 14 years and have a lot more experience, not only in game development but also in dealing with people and game teams,” Romero commented. “Many times you hear of musical groups getting back together after decades apart, and then they try to work together again everything explodes and falls apart because of personality and hubris. I really don’t think that would happen with John and me.”
John Carmack was recently awarded at the Game Developers Choice Awards with the Lifetime Achievement award. Meanwhile, Romero is working as a Creative Director at Gazillion, which recently unveiled Super Hero Squad Online, an MMO based on the Marvel Comics universe. We don't foresee the legendary duo teaming up anytime soon, but stranger things have happened.
