Citing the recent NPD report, Nintendo said that the 3DS sold 260,000 units during the September period. The company sold 647,000 hardware units in total during the month, with the Wii accounting for slightly less than 250,000.
"The Nintendo DS forever changed the gaming landscape, and the fact that consumers continue to embrace the platform is a testament to its value and mass appeal," said Nintendo of America's executive VP of sales and marketing, Scott Moffitt. "Our hand-held story continues with the Nintendo 3DS system, which just had its second consecutive month of growth and enters its first holiday season with a monster lineup of games, including Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7."
The range of DS products have sold 50 million units in the U.S. total since being introduced. The 3DS has sold 450,000 units since the price was dropped down to $170.
