At the Japanese Nintendo Direct event today, president Satoru Iwata revealed a number of titles planned for release on the Nintendo 3DS in the near future.
The first notable release is a 3DS collaboration between Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai. The title does not currently have a name, but it will be published under Namco Bandai’s Banpresto label.
Atlus will also be bringing the newest title in its Wizardry-style dungeon crawling series, Etrian Odyssey IV. Famitsu (translated via Andriasang) says the game is planned for a July 2012 release in Japan, but there’s been no word on a North American or European release.
In-house, Nintendo is bringing new 3DS spins on a number of classic titles. The first of these announced was a new Brain Age game. The game still features Dr. Ryuta Kawashima and includes “Working Memory” training and “Devil Training” modes. Iwata said the title is expected for the Summer release in Japan.
Mario Tennis Open brings the classic Mario Tennis franchise to the 3DS, with a May 24 release in Japan, and a May 25 release in the United States and Europe.
Fire Emblem Awakening is the next title in the classic strategy RPG series, and will be the first Nintendo 3DS title to have paid DLC. New maps and episodes will be released after the game’s launch in Japan on April 19, but the first piece of paid DLC will launch with title itself. Players who jump on it early can get the first DLC set for free through May 31. No Western release was mentioned.
Over on the Western side, Nintendo will be releasing Dillon’s Rolling Western for the 3DS eShop. The game features tower-defense-style gameplay and will be available for release this Thursday for $10.
Is that enough to make people second guess their purchase of the Vita?
