2K Play Announces Wii Fitness Title

Posted June 28, 2010 by Ben Strauss

2K Play is looking at leveraging the craze on exercise gaming that has become popular on the Wii. Though the Kinect and Move are offering multiple fitness games for the entire family, the Wii will be getting workout games specifically aimed at kids.

The new Nickelodeon Fit will use a balance board and popular cartoon characters to inspire kids to work out while they play. With Dora The Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, Ni-Hao, Kai-Lan and The Backyardigans making an appearance, the game will appeal to younger audiences.

As kids will find this game exciting and most hardcore gamers will pass on this type of game, parents will be looking to get their kids active. Childhood obesity rates have been at abysmal levels over the past decade, so a blend of technology to encourage kids to work out is definitely a good thing. “If you can’t beat them, join them” comes to mind.
