The numbers aren't crystal clear on Hideo Kojima's latest masterpiece, but it's rumored to have cost Konami at least $50 million. Associate producer Ryan Payton said prior to the launch that the game would need to sell a million copies on its first day to meet production costs. When a publisher makes a comment like that, you know a massive investment has been made. It comes as no surprise though given the tremendous cinematic presentation that all of the Metal Gear games have. Producing those long, intense cinematics costs a lot of money. Luckily for Konami, the game was a major success, having sold over 3 million copies, and it's now a “Greatest Hit” for PS3.
